Letter from the President Regarding 2010 Fees

Dt: 12/31/2009Re: Fees for the 2010 Spring SeasonMany are asking questions about the rates for the Spring 2010 season. Here is the breakdown of the cost structure approved by the PTCLL BOD in November:

  1. $25 is going into a fenced account for field improvements and upgrades. PTCLL is looking at buying netting for the bleachers, moving backstop fences inward, batting cages, new catching equipment, etc.
  2. The Candy Bar fundraiser was voted on and approved by the BOD in November. This idea was proposed by Chris Yeager who had a very successful program in his LL back in Indiana. We compared it to two other programs (a mixed nuts program and a mixed chips program), but the start up costs on those programs was too high. This financial program is a wash for the family and only one fundraiser per family is required. The Braves fundraiser has become a more district-centric program for 2010, so its focus will not be mainly PTC.
  3. The volunteer fund is being mixed in with the concession stand and umpiring program to reduce operating costs of the league. We continue to offset the lack of volunteerism in concessions with paid staff and we need to limit that cost in 2010. Our goal is to save $1400 on umpires and $2000 on concession stand costs.
  4. We are working on starting a PTCLL Softball program with Mike Dunlap as Commissioner. We are planning to fund a portion of the start up costs for this program as it becomes a District initiative.

If people subtract the $25 for the field improvement account, the $52 that they get back on the fundraiser and the $50 volunteer cost, everyone will notice that the costs are approximately the same as 2009 fees. We must improve our volunteer participation rate to help minimize our costs. We froze our costs over the fall season to help out with the economic situation that we all face but to move in our future direction, these incremental fees need to begin this season. We absorbed over $18K in umpiring charges during the 2009 Spring season and over $5K to Williamsport for chartering and insurance fees. We are working to offset these costs and make improvements on our PTCLL product. As all can see, the funds are going to improving our PTCLL experience while expanding our programs.I hope this answers any concerns anyone may have. If there are any concerns please reach out to any PTCLL Board member for clarification.Best Wishes for a Great Spring 2010
.

Doug Sturbaum
President PTCLL
