PTCLL offers a recreational baseball program for kids age 4 to 15. Our Spring 2023 season will run from early March until late May. Player assessments and drafts will take place in mid-January, and teams will have about 5 weeks to practice from late January until early March when games begin. Further details about our Spring 2023 schedule are still TBD at this time.

The following notes will help you understand which division of our program is most appropriate for your child.

Determining a Player's Division Eligibility Based on "League Age"

To determine a player's eligibility for each division, we use the official 2023 Little League Baseball Age Chart, located here:

https://www.littleleague.org/downloads/2023-baseball-age-chart/

You can use the chart to determine your child's League Age for 2023. Here are our eligibility criteria for each division based on League Age:

League Age 4-5: Tee-Ball

Tee-Ball is a beginners baseball program for kids whose League Age is 4 or 5 (born Sep 2017 through Aug 2019). Tee Ball is non-competitive, with a focus on learning and fun. Beginning players may hit the ball from a tee, but for more experienced players, a coach may toss the pitch from 15-20 feet away. Teams do not keep score during games. Outs are not recorded, and every player bats in each inning. Players run "station-to-station" on each hit, i.e., there are no extra-base hits and no extra bases gained due to overthrows and other errors.

Note: Kids whose League Age is under 4 (i.e., born Sep 2019 or later) are NOT ELIGIBLE to play in PTCLL in 2023 for safety reasons under PTCLL's liability insurance policy.

League Age 6-8: Junior Minors (Coach/Machine Pitch)

Junior Minor baseball is for kids whose League Age is 6 to 8 (born Sep 2014 through Aug 2017). At this level, coaches pitch using a mechanical, spring-loaded pitching machine. Players may not lead off base or steal bases. Base paths are 60 feet.

League Age 9-10: Minors (Player Pitch)

The Minor baseball division is for kids whose League Age is 9 to 10 (born Sep 2012 through Aug 2014). At this level, the kids pitch. Players may steal bases, but may not leave a base until the pitched ball has passed home plate. Base paths are 60 feet, and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

League Age 11-12: Majors OR Intermediates

The Major baseball division is for kids whose League Age is 11 to 12 (born Sep 2010 through Aug 2012). Players may steal bases, but may not leave a base until the pitched ball has passed home plate. Base paths are 60 feet, and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Most players who register to play in this division are seeking to earn a roster spot on our Majors All-Star team in the Little League International Tournament, which culminates with the Little League Baseball World Series.

The Intermediate baseball division is also for kids whose League Age is 11 to 12. Base paths are 70 feet, and the pitching distance is 50 feet. In this division, players may lead and steal bases just as in Major League baseball.

Note: Players in the Intermediate division may choose to "dual-roster" in the Major division, meaning they can play on an Intermediate team AND a Major team during the same season. There is no additional cost to dual-roster, beyond the registration fee for the Intermediate division.

League Age 13-15: Juniors

Our Junior division is for players whose League Age is 13 to 15 (born Sep 2007 through Aug 2010). In this division, the base paths are 80 feet and the pitching distance is 54 feet.

"Playing Up" and "Playing Down"

We recognize that under some circumstances, a parent may wish for their child to "play up" in a division that is above the child's League Age. Similarly, sometimes a parent may wish for their child to "play down" in a division that is below the child's League Age. PTCLL allows a child to "play up" at a level ONE division above the child's League Age, upon parent request. For example, a parent may request that their 8-year-old child "play up" in the Minor division (one level above Junior Minor), but NOT in the Major division (two levels above Junior Minor).

Note: Under most circumstances, PTCLL does NOT permit a child to "play down" in a division below the child's League Age. Any request for a child to "play down" must be approved by the PTCLL Board of Directors. Such requests are typically denied, barring exceptional circumstances.

To submit a request for your child to play up or play down, you must first register your child for the division indicated based on the child's League Age. Then, send email to Matt Moyer, PTCLL's Secretary/Registrar, at [email protected], stating your request for your child to play up or play down.
